MARK ABRAM – PHOTOGRAPHER – GALERIA TWO
We trust you are enjoying Mark Abram’s work. It has certainly given us a set of damp underpants.
We had occasion to speak to Mark about his photographic kung-fu, and we felt the exchange was worth repeating here. After all, when we hold the blowtorch of truth to the genitals of our subjects, there is no denying the flame…
How old are you?
“Fifty-four.”
Why do you do this?
“Because I love the sport.“
Whose photographic work do you find inspirational?
“Helmut Newton for the arty side, Scott Jones for the MotoGP.”
Who is the best rider in Australia today?
“That’s a hard one . I would say the best up and coming riders are Daniel Falzon and Hudson Pitt , although young Ted Collins is one to watch for the future.”
What is your dream bike?
“Kevin Schwantz’s 1993 RGV 500 with a stick-on headlight. I’m a self-confessed two-stroke junkie.”
Have you ever taken the perfect shot?
“No, not yet . I strive to make my images convey the feeling of speed and motion and this is still a work in progress.”
Who or what would you most like to photograph?
“The Northern Lights.”
Have you ever fallen in love with a grid girl?
“No. I am more likely to nick the bike than the girl.”
What kind of gear do you use?
“Canon. I use a 1D MK IV camera body sourced from Gumtree for $3000 pre-loved. Most of my gear is pre-loved and sourced from wBay and the like. My current fave lens is the 70-200 2.8 Series II combined with a 1.4 converter . I also have a crusty old non-IS 400 2.8 that I love.”
Do you ever long for the days of film?
“Always I miss the darkroom. I am trying to teach myself Photoshop. This is a long drawn-out process as I am a Luddite when it comes to technology.”
