 <\/p>\n

With proud thanksgiving, a mother for her children,<\/h4>\n

England mourns for her dead across the sea.<\/h4>\n

Flesh of her flesh they were, spirit of her spirit,<\/h4>\n

Fallen in the cause of the free.<\/h4>\n

 <\/p>\n

<\/h4>\n

Solemn the drums thrill; Death august and royal<\/h4>\n

Sings sorrow up into immortal spheres,<\/h4>\n

There is music in the midst of desolation<\/h4>\n

And a glory that shines upon our tears.<\/h4>\n

 <\/p>\n

<\/h4>\n

They went with songs to the battle, they were young,<\/h4>\n

Straight of limb, true of eye, steady and aglow.<\/h4>\n

They were staunch to the end against odds uncounted;<\/h4>\n

They fell with their faces to the foe.<\/h4>\n

 <\/p>\n

<\/h4>\n

They shall grow not old, as we that are left grow old:<\/h4>\n

Age shall not weary them, nor the years condemn.<\/h4>\n

At the going down of the sun and in the morning<\/h4>\n

We will remember them.<\/h4>\n

 <\/p>\n

<\/h4>\n

They mingle not with their laughing comrades again;<\/h4>\n

They sit no more at familiar tables of home;<\/h4>\n

They have no lot in our labour of the day-time;<\/h4>\n

They sleep beyond England’s foam.<\/h4>\n

<\/h4>\n

But where our desires are and our hopes profound,<\/h4>\n

Felt as a well-spring that is hidden from sight,<\/h4>\n

To the innermost heart of their own land they are known<\/h4>\n

As the stars are known to the Night;<\/h4>\n

 <\/p>\n

<\/h4>\n

As the stars that shall be bright when we are dust,<\/h4>\n

Moving in marches upon the heavenly plain;<\/h4>\n

As the stars that are starry in the time of our darkness,<\/h4>\n

To the end, to the end, they remain.<\/h4>\n
