{"id":4513,"date":"2013-11-04T01:56:56","date_gmt":"2013-11-03T15:56:56","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/bikeme.tv\/?p=4513"},"modified":"2013-11-01T17:41:21","modified_gmt":"2013-11-01T07:41:21","slug":"vfr-reputation-reaches-dark-continent","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/bikeme.tv\/index.php\/vfr-reputation-reaches-dark-continent\/","title":{"rendered":"VFR REPUTATION REACHES DARK CONTINENT"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>I had to go into hospital a while back for a routine examination that involved a general anaesthetic.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAnd what have you provided for my pharmacological pleasure today?\u201d I asked the anaesthetist.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cPropofol\u201d, she said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cNever heard of it.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cYou should have,\u201d she replied. \u201cIt\u2019s the drug that killed Michael Jackson.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>I was impressed. She inserted a needle into my arm, my arm went very cold, and I woke up an hour later after the best night\u2019s sleep I\u2019d had in years.<\/p>\n<p>How efficient is THAT? No wonder Jacko thought it worth paying a full time physician to pump the stuff into him.<\/p>\n<p>The nurse in the recovery room\u00a0gave me a light lunch and asked how I was getting home.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWalking\u201d, I said.<\/p>\n<p>She was horrified. \u201cYou can\u2019t do that!\u201d, she said. \u201cYou\u2019ve had general anaesthetic!\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI know\u201d, I said. \u201cAnd watch me.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cYou can\u2019t,\u201d said the nurse. \u201cOnce, a lady had a general anaesthetic, and walked home, and on the way she passed a furniture shop, and she went in and bought a lounge suite she didn\u2019t need!\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt\u2019s OK\u201d, I said. \u201cThere are no furniture shops between here and my home.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cYou can\u2019t,\u201d said the nurse. \u201cOnce, a man had a general anaesthetic, and walked home, and on the way he went into a motorcycle shop and bought a motorcycle, and he didn\u2019t even have a motorcycle licence!\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt\u2019s OK\u201d, I said. \u201cI have a motorcycle licence.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI\u2019m calling you a cab\u201d, said the nurse.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThey won\u2019t come\u201d, I told her. \u201cI live next door. It\u2019s a fifty metre walk. They\u2019re not interested in a fare from here to fifty metres away from here.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe will give you an escort\u201d, said the nurse. She summoned an orderly.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAbdul! You are to walk this gentleman home.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>I got in the elevator with Abdul. By the time we got out on the ground floor, I had established that Abdul came from Somalia, and that he had no propofol.<\/p>\n<p>By the time we got past where the staff park their motorcycles, I had established that none of them were Abdul\u2019s, but he had owned a small Yamaha in Somalia and wouldn\u2019t mind getting an MT-01.<\/p>\n<p>I told him I had a Honda\u00a0VFR800.
