The road goes uphill after the bridge, and there are three good corners in a row, and they\u2019re great fun. My line through the first was perfect, and it set me up in exactly the right position for the second, and I leaned the \u2018Strom WAY over to the left, and a guy on a Suzuki Burgman scooter came from behind and took me on the inside. He hit a small bump while he was doing it, and something on his Burgman scraped on the road.<\/p>\n
I was unmanned.<\/p>\n
He got stuck in traffic a bit further on and I passed him and proceeded on my way to have a beer with George.<\/p>\n
George was dismounting his Buell as I arrived in the pub car park. I parked the \u2018Strom next to his bike, and as I was dismounting the guy on the Burgman pulled up next to me.<\/p>\n
George said \u201cAl!\u201d and the guy on the Burgman took his helmet off and looked at my front tyre and said \u201cYou weren\u2019t doing too badly back there for someone on knobbies.\u201d<\/p>\n
George said \u201cWho\u2019s your friend?\u201d and I said he wasn\u2019t my friend, he was a guy who passed me on the inside just after the bridge on his scooter, and George laughed.<\/p>\n
The guy said \u201cBurgmans are really quick. You should try one,\u201d and I said no thanks.<\/p>\n
The guy said \u201cYou can take mine for a ride\u201d, and held his keys up, and I said no thanks.<\/p>\n
The guy said \u201cWhy?\u201d and I said because scooters are gay, and George stopped laughing, and the guy said \u201cWhat did you call me?\u201d<\/p>\n
George is a diplomat. He is from Armenia. \u201cMy friend\u201d, he said. \u201cThis discussion is cutting into my drinking time. Perhaps I could explain why he REALLY doesn\u2019t like scooters.\u201d<\/p>\n
The guy said \u201cOkay.\u201d<\/p>\n
\u201cLet me give you an example\u201d, said George. \u201cYou know that other clown at McDonalds? The one that hides from homos?\u201d<\/p>\n
\u201cWhat other clown?\u201d said the guy.<\/p>\n
\u201cNo further questions\u201d, said George.<\/p>\n
George looked at me. I looked at him. We walked into the bar. The guy on the Burgman shook his head and started putting his helmet back on.<\/p>\n
George ordered two beers. He laughed again. \u201cI cannot believe that you were passed by a guy on a scooter\u201d, he said.<\/p>\n
\u201cNot funny, George\u201d, I told him. \u201cThe wounds are still new.\u201d<\/p>\n
\u201cAl\u201d, he said, \u201cyou have to answer me one question with complete honesty, after which we will never speak of this again.\u201d<\/p>\n
\u201cOkay\u201d, I said.<\/p>\n
