They be serious numbers. This is a serious bike. Look \u2013 a mere 193kg wet, propelled by 207 horses and 113Nm at 11,000rpm, where more than 100Nm of that torque is rammed into you between 5500 and 14,500rpm.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>What is that even? I have no idea. I certainly did not rev it that hard. What do you think I am? Glenn Allerton? Stupid? I&#8217;m only going about 30km\/h. Honest.<\/strong><\/p><\/div>\n<p>Here is what I do have an idea about. Ten years after BMW decided it was going to make superbikes, and allowed me to wobble around Phillip Island on the first S1000RR, a lot of water has flowed under that bridge.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Many and obvious have been the improvements wrought on the S1000RR. Not the least of which has been a quantum leap in styling. The first one looked a bit like wonk-eyed exercise in angry German race-bikery. This one is an aesthetic masterpiece of bike-design.<\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_1495675\" style=\"width: 630px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-1495675\" class=\"wp-image-1495675 size-full\" src=\"http:\/\/bikeme.tv\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/08\/219873794_2985579148396771_985289381654842846_n.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"620\" height=\"827\" srcset=\"https:\/\/bikeme.tv\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/08\/219873794_2985579148396771_985289381654842846_n.jpg 620w, https:\/\/bikeme.tv\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/08\/219873794_2985579148396771_985289381654842846_n-225x300.jpg 225w, https:\/\/bikeme.tv\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/08\/219873794_2985579148396771_985289381654842846_n-262x350.jpg 262w, https:\/\/bikeme.tv\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/08\/219873794_2985579148396771_985289381654842846_n-600x800.jpg 600w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 620px) 100vw, 620px\" \/><p id=\"caption-attachment-1495675\" class=\"wp-caption-text\"><strong>Carbon, rear-sets, evil, wickedness, glory&#8230;<\/strong><\/p><\/div>\n<p>But there\u2019s also much more to the new S1000RR than just the way it looks \u2013 and it looks like it shoots lasers and photon cannons as it\u2019s carving racetracks and acquiring podiums. It\u2019s lighter, more powerful, and as sophisticated as only German super-computers can make it.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Which is to say it is far, far more sophisticated than me. And you. And almost everyone you ride with. And that is what makes the S1000RR very special. And the M Sport variant, which is what I had for almost two months \u2013 a touch more special. It comes with tyre pressure monitoring, a gorgeous embroidered M seat, a special M battery, the Riding Mode Pro option in its guts, and stunning, brilliant, must-have carbon wheels. And until you\u2019ve ridden on lightweight wheels (unsprung weight is a big thing), you don\u2019t know what you\u2019re missing.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>This is the point of the spear. The sharp bit. The bit that glints in the sun. Go cry your disappointment elsewhere.<\/strong><\/p><\/div>\n<p>The M Sport is, of course, track-ready. I, of course, am not. It is fair to say a slim-hipped 25-year-old with sponsorship on his immaculately-fitted leathers would relish appearing at race-meeting or a ride day and firing the M Sport up to the applause and admiration of everyone there.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Me? Yes, up and down. Aber naturlich.<\/strong><\/p><\/div>\n<p>So I did some of that. I communed deeply with the pointy end of the spear.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>It was mesmerising to ride. Even if you lack the necessary skills and are shaped like a bear, you\u2019re still going to be fast. You\u2019re still going to carry appalling corner speed. You\u2019ll still stop breathing when braking hard and praying harder. And then you\u2019ll take a deep, ragged breath as it hooks up coming out of that corner you swore you were entering too fast, and you\u2019ll power on to the next. And the next. It\u2019s very reasonable in that regard. There are racing crouches and racing crouches.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>But each time I rode it, I wondered how I was going to review it for you. It\u2019s faultless. It does nothing wrong. It does everything superbly.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Want me to whinge about how it\u2019s not the best lane-splitting commuter, or a challenging touring bike? You don\u2019t use the Point of the Spear to stir your old-man porridge or your LAM-flavoured cappuccino.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>You ride it like you know what you\u2019re doing, even if you don\u2019t. Is it overwhelming? Not at all. It\u2019s far too sophisticated and refined to overwhelm you. It just provides all that is needed, when it is needed, and very much how it is needed.<\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_1495682\" style=\"width: 630px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-1495682\" class=\"wp-image-1495682 size-full\" src=\"http:\/\/bikeme.tv\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/08\/236308725_2985579181730101_5528273493467141426_n.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"620\" height=\"827\" srcset=\"https:\/\/bikeme.tv\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/08\/236308725_2985579181730101_5528273493467141426_n.jpg 620w, https:\/\/bikeme.tv\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/08\/236308725_2985579181730101_5528273493467141426_n-225x300.jpg 225w, https:\/\/bikeme.tv\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/08\/236308725_2985579181730101_5528273493467141426_n-262x350.jpg 262w, https:\/\/bikeme.tv\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/08\/236308725_2985579181730101_5528273493467141426_n-600x800.jpg 600w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 620px) 100vw, 620px\" \/><p id=\"caption-attachment-1495682\" class=\"wp-caption-text\"><strong>The familiar spinning wheel of technology.<\/strong><\/p><\/div>\n<p>Unlike the Panigale, which is hell-frying your legs while pumping you with adrenalin until you\u2019re howling like a red-eyed wolf, the S1000RR is stroking your bristles and saying: \u201cJa, ja, junge\u2026alles ist gut\u2026\u201d, like it\u2019s almost coddling you to go faster, try harder, brake later\u2026well, you get the drift.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Glass smooth, intuitively responsive, and shatteringly fast \u2013 this is about as developed an in-line four as I have ever beheld, or had the pleasure to ride. Does it matter?<\/strong><\/p><\/div>\n<p>It certainly is that. And that makes it so much more than the sum of its parts, as well. Put aside, if you can, considerations about money and practicality. Those terms have no place in any true and honest discussion about bikes. The heart wants what the heart wants. The brain can shut up and mind its own business.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Especially when it comes to the Point of the Spear.<\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_1495681\" style=\"width: 630px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-1495681\" class=\"wp-image-1495681 size-full\" src=\"http:\/\/bikeme.tv\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/08\/228132424_2985582975063055_4345573253508787866_n.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"620\" height=\"827\" srcset=\"https:\/\/bikeme.tv\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/08\/228132424_2985582975063055_4345573253508787866_n.jpg 620w, https:\/\/bikeme.tv\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/08\/228132424_2985582975063055_4345573253508787866_n-225x300.jpg 225w, https:\/\/bikeme.tv\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/08\/228132424_2985582975063055_4345573253508787866_n-262x350.jpg 262w, https:\/\/bikeme.tv\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/08\/228132424_2985582975063055_4345573253508787866_n-600x800.jpg 600w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 620px) 100vw, 620px\" \/><p id=\"caption-attachment-1495681\" class=\"wp-caption-text\"><strong>Take it dancing&#8230;<\/strong><\/p><\/div>\n<p><strong>SECOND OPINION<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Boris had asked me if I would be free on Wednesday to help him move two motorbikes to where they could be photographed.\u00a0 I had agreed.\u00a0 Who wouldn\u2019t?<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Sadly, when Wednesday came around, Nick Edards, Boris\u2019 usual photographer was indisposed.\u00a0 We decided we would go for a ride anyway.\u00a0 Perhaps we could at least get some static shots using Boris\u2019 new iPhone 12.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Boris had just taken delivery of the new Hayabusa, while he had already put some kilometers under the wheels of the S1000RR M Sport (hereinafter the M, because life is short).\u00a0 So, outside of photography, riding the M fell to <em>Yrs Trly<\/em>.\u00a0 Sometimes life IS a box of chocolates.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>I expected it to be uncomfortable, peaky, and nervous.\u00a0 It wasn\u2019t.\u00a0 Instead it brought me up to date on the state of the motorcycling art, 2021.\u00a0 It was smooth, tractable, forgiving and easy to ride.\u00a0 I am not one to anthropomorphise, but this machine was like a German racing instructor.\u00a0 Not one of those <em>f\u00fcr dich ist der krieg vorbei<\/em> (for you the war is over) types, more like an intense version of Stefan Bradl\u2019s dad.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>I could feel it helping me through the bends:<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><em>Nein, dumkopf, keep ze gas on!\u00a0 See?\u00a0 Ja, ja das ist gut!\u00a0 Schnellerrrrrr!<\/em><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Sadly, it will take more than imaginary friends for me to get the most out of the M.\u00a0 Its capacity is so far beyond my capability, I feel like a musketeer with a machine gun.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Nevertheless, the M is not beyond me.\u00a0 Herr Bradl will always be there patiently to explain how much faster I could be going if I could only adjust my sense of the possible.\u00a0 I envy those who can afford to travel down that road.\u00a0 They will get faster and faster, and laugh uncontrollably inside their helmets as they come to understand what the state of the art can do for them.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong>Nick Warne<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.bmw-motorrad.com.au\/en\/models\/sport\/s1000rr.html#\/section-ride-away-with-bmw-finance\"><span style=\"color: #ff9900;\">FEEL FREE TO BROWSE HERE AND SEE PRICES, COLOUR OPTIONS, AND EVEN HIGHER PEAKS\u2026<\/span><\/a><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>PHOTOGRAPHIC APOLOGY Please forgive the quality of the imaging.
