Come at me everything.<\/strong><\/p><\/div>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>The only way to stop the chatter is to accelerate to a velocity that silences all speech. All that remains then is rapid breathing and a faster pulse.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>And the GTL can do that too.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>There is, in fact, very little the BMW GTL1600 cannot do. I\u2019m thinking it would be a handful in an Enduro race, and I reckon it might not float for long. But should sir wish to transverse continents, and (and this is important) arrive at his destination with a pillion who is ready to slip on a little black dress, some heels, and go out dancing all night, then this is the bike for you.<\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_1495621\" style=\"width: 630px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-1495621\" class=\"wp-image-1495621 size-full\" src=\"http:\/\/bikeme.tv\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/06\/FX5_4228.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"620\" height=\"349\" srcset=\"https:\/\/bikeme.tv\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/06\/FX5_4228.jpg 620w, https:\/\/bikeme.tv\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/06\/FX5_4228-300x169.jpg 300w, https:\/\/bikeme.tv\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/06\/FX5_4228-600x338.jpg 600w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 620px) 100vw, 620px\" \/><p id=\"caption-attachment-1495621\" class=\"wp-caption-text\"><strong>The laws of physics be damned.<\/strong><\/p><\/div>\n<p>\u201cIt\u2019s magnificent,\u201d my wife, Lynette, said many, many times during our time with BMW\u2019s touring masterpiece. And she was right. As a high-speed, two-up, touring weapon, the GTL is peerless.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Of course, if you\u2019re not into cosseting your pillion with every luxury, or you don\u2019t pillion much, then you might want to go for the K1600GT or K1600B. Same effortless six-cylinder performance, just without the lounge chair and steamer trunk on the back.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>I ride one of these monstrous wonders every year. In the intervening 11 months, I tend to forget how utterly able and splendid they are \u2013 and they are certainly that. But Lynette never forgets, and is always asking when I\u2019m going to get THAT Beemer back \u2013 the one that makes being a pillion something special.<\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_1495622\" style=\"width: 630px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-1495622\" class=\"wp-image-1495622 size-full\" src=\"http:\/\/bikeme.tv\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/06\/FX5_4337.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"620\" height=\"413\" srcset=\"https:\/\/bikeme.tv\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/06\/FX5_4337.jpg 620w, https:\/\/bikeme.tv\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/06\/FX5_4337-300x200.jpg 300w, https:\/\/bikeme.tv\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/06\/FX5_4337-525x350.jpg 525w, https:\/\/bikeme.tv\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/06\/FX5_4337-600x400.jpg 600w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 620px) 100vw, 620px\" \/><p id=\"caption-attachment-1495622\" class=\"wp-caption-text\"><strong>It is elegant and comprehensive, but it is showing its age a touch.<\/strong><\/p><\/div>\n<p>From a rider\u2019s perspective, the GTL is quite an eye-opener. If you\u2019ve not ridden one of these before, be prepared to have your views on big bikes changed.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>One would think something this large has no business being able to scratch a bit when the mood takes you. There\u2019s no getting around that.<\/p>\n<p>It\u2019s 350kg wet. Fully loaded with pillion and gear \u2013 there\u2019s 117-litres of storage so the girlfriend can take all the hair-dryers on earth \u2013 it\u2019s happy at 560kg.<\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_1495624\" style=\"width: 630px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-1495624\" class=\"wp-image-1495624 size-full\" src=\"http:\/\/bikeme.tv\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/06\/FX5_4342.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"620\" height=\"413\" srcset=\"https:\/\/bikeme.tv\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/06\/FX5_4342.jpg 620w, https:\/\/bikeme.tv\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/06\/FX5_4342-300x200.jpg 300w, https:\/\/bikeme.tv\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/06\/FX5_4342-525x350.jpg 525w, https:\/\/bikeme.tv\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/06\/FX5_4342-600x400.jpg 600w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 620px) 100vw, 620px\" \/><p id=\"caption-attachment-1495624\" class=\"wp-caption-text\"><strong>It really is the last word in pillion-comfort and luggage-carrying capacity.<\/strong><\/p><\/div>\n<p>Propelling that weight is BMW\u2019s now-iconic 1650cc, six-cylinder engine, which offers your right hand 175Nm of torque (70 per cent of which is there at 1500rpm), and 160 horses. And it offers it smoothly, and with great majesty.<\/p>\n<p>That\u2019s the over-arching quality of the GTL \u2013 it is majestic.<\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_1495625\" style=\"width: 630px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-1495625\" class=\"wp-image-1495625 size-full\" src=\"http:\/\/bikeme.tv\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/06\/FX5_4328.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"620\" height=\"414\" srcset=\"https:\/\/bikeme.tv\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/06\/FX5_4328.jpg 620w, https:\/\/bikeme.tv\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/06\/FX5_4328-300x200.jpg 300w, https:\/\/bikeme.tv\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/06\/FX5_4328-524x350.jpg 524w, https:\/\/bikeme.tv\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/06\/FX5_4328-600x401.jpg 600w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 620px) 100vw, 620px\" \/><p id=\"caption-attachment-1495625\" class=\"wp-caption-text\"><strong>The Option 719 wheels are gorgeous.<\/strong><\/p><\/div>\n<p>Even when you\u2019re being a bit crazy with it, it\u2019s still majestic. And that\u2019s a brilliant confluence of qualities, I reckon.<\/p>\n<p>Shall I list all the things that contribute to its majesty?<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Behold\u2026<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>BMW Motorrad Integral ABS, ABS Pro, Dynamic ESA, Dynamic Traction Control, reverse gear, LED Lights, coloured TFT Screen, Xenon Headlight, heated Grips, heated seat (can I tell you how much Lynette loved that), cruise control, comfort footrests (they\u2019re a bit wider), comfort turn indicator (I did not know this was a thing until I looked it up, but OK), adjustable levers, centre-stand, electronically adjustable windscreen, Hill Start Control Pro, radio, adaptive headlight, daytime riding light, tyre pressure sensor, keyless Ride, Gear Shift Assist Pro, central locking system, LED fog lights, and anti-theft alarm system. Since mine was the Option 719, I got the most beautiful wheels on a production bike and some killer paint. But there are lots more goodies you can get with Option 719, which is the factory\u2019s bling factory.<\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_1495626\" style=\"width: 630px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-1495626\" class=\"wp-image-1495626 size-full\" src=\"http:\/\/bikeme.tv\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/06\/FX5_4214.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"620\" height=\"388\" srcset=\"https:\/\/bikeme.tv\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/06\/FX5_4214.jpg 620w, https:\/\/bikeme.tv\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/06\/FX5_4214-300x188.jpg 300w, https:\/\/bikeme.tv\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/06\/FX5_4214-559x350.jpg 559w, https:\/\/bikeme.tv\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/06\/FX5_4214-600x375.jpg 600w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 620px) 100vw, 620px\" \/><p id=\"caption-attachment-1495626\" class=\"wp-caption-text\"><strong>I&#8217;m in there somewhere&#8230;<\/strong><\/p><\/div>\n<p>And all of that can be fired up the road and through corners with A purpose that will dry your mouth and fry your fajitas. Crucially, without upsetting the pillion on the back.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>I took Lynette up and down Mother Putty a few times, and I took her out to Merriwa and across to Willow Tree at a pace that delighted me, and appalled her when I told her about it later. At the time she seemed blissfully unaware that I was looking at serious jail-time if I came across a cop.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>I can nit-pick things about it, and probably should, lest you think I\u2019ve sold my soul to the Bavarian mastodon.<\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_1495627\" style=\"width: 630px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-1495627\" class=\"wp-image-1495627 size-full\" src=\"http:\/\/bikeme.tv\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/06\/FX5_4327.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"620\" height=\"413\" srcset=\"https:\/\/bikeme.tv\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/06\/FX5_4327.jpg 620w, https:\/\/bikeme.tv\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/06\/FX5_4327-300x200.jpg 300w, https:\/\/bikeme.tv\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/06\/FX5_4327-525x350.jpg 525w, https:\/\/bikeme.tv\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/06\/FX5_4327-600x400.jpg 600w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 620px) 100vw, 620px\" \/><p id=\"caption-attachment-1495627\" class=\"wp-caption-text\"><strong>The German six is all sex. One of the finest motorcycle engines ever made.<\/strong><\/p><\/div>\n<p>The gear box is a tad clunky if you eschew the very good up-down quick-shifter. The bike is better at shifting its gears than you are. Live with it.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>I saw no point in the stereo. Given the advance of in-helmet electronics, bike stereos have become largely redundant. You can\u2019t really hear them over 120. The GTL\u2019s superb wind-protection does permit reasonable sound-quality up to about 80-90 \u2013 but after that, it falls off a cliff. I don\u2019t care about this, since I don\u2019t listen to music much \u2013 and certainly not when I\u2019m banging along \u2013 but some of you might want to know this.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>I\u2019m a little spoiled here, but I also thought the dash was getting a little dated \u2013 and there\u2019s lots going on. It is a matter of getting used to the layout, but the market for this bike has eyes that are past their best, so bigger and easier-to-read is the way forward. I\u2019m gonna set it on Pillion With Luggage.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>\u201cYou\u2019re being weird,\u201d she sighed.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cLook, I told you we were out reviewing the bike. There isn\u2019t one. Both Harley and Indian make similar bikes in terms of pillion comfort.
