There\u2019s a huge nine per cent more mid-range torque and power, while engine inertia has been reduced by seven per cent \u2013 which means Triumph is certainly transferring to its road bikes much of what it gleans from its Moto2 involvement. Soon the cops will be here to capsicum spray me for being tattooed in Queensland.&#8221;<\/strong><\/p><\/div>\n<p>Thus the 2020 launch, which offered up 400-odd kays of hot-weather road-riding on some of Queensland\u2019s finest swervery, and a day at Lakeside to examine the Street\u2019s track manners, was an excellent way to make a comparison between the outgoing and the incoming.<\/p>\n<p>And the difference is quite substantial in the best possible way. Cheng Shins?<\/strong><\/p><\/div>\n<p>Triumph is now employing higher tolerance levels in many of its engines thanks to its involvement with the Moto2 class in MotoGP \u2013 so you get less engine inertia eating up the proffered grunt. And it is noticeable, especially on the road. I\u2019m too busy not-crashing on the racetrack to notice that stuff \u2013 and it\u2019s not like I was any quicker around Lakeside this year than I was last time.<\/p>\n<p>Just know the engine is keener than a cut-throat in a street-fight.<\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_1494445\" style=\"width: 630px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-1494445\" class=\"wp-image-1494445 size-full\" src=\"http:\/\/bikeme.tv\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/01\/Street-Triple-RS-20MY-Variant-Page-Twin-LED-Headlights-1410x793px.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"620\" height=\"349\" srcset=\"https:\/\/bikeme.tv\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/01\/Street-Triple-RS-20MY-Variant-Page-Twin-LED-Headlights-1410x793px.jpg 620w, https:\/\/bikeme.tv\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/01\/Street-Triple-RS-20MY-Variant-Page-Twin-LED-Headlights-1410x793px-300x169.jpg 300w, https:\/\/bikeme.tv\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/01\/Street-Triple-RS-20MY-Variant-Page-Twin-LED-Headlights-1410x793px-600x338.jpg 600w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 620px) 100vw, 620px\" \/><p id=\"caption-attachment-1494445\" class=\"wp-caption-text\"><strong>Like shining eyebrows of anger.<\/strong><\/p><\/div>\n<p>The rear suspension has been upgraded to a higher-spec \u00d6hlins unit, while the front 41mm Showas are quite excellent. You get a compliantly firm, fast-steering ride which works beautifully on the road and only requires a slight firming at both ends to provide a comparably great feel on the track.<\/p>\n<p>Somehow, Triumph as also managed to wedge a 17.4-litre fuel tank in there, so you\u2019ll easily get a good crack more than 300 out of a tank.<\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_1494446\" style=\"width: 650px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-1494446\" class=\"wp-image-1494446 size-full\" src=\"http:\/\/bikeme.tv\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/01\/2020-Triumph-Street-Triple-RS-details-13.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"640\" height=\"427\" srcset=\"https:\/\/bikeme.tv\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/01\/2020-Triumph-Street-Triple-RS-details-13.jpg 640w, https:\/\/bikeme.tv\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/01\/2020-Triumph-Street-Triple-RS-details-13-300x200.jpg 300w, https:\/\/bikeme.tv\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/01\/2020-Triumph-Street-Triple-RS-details-13-525x350.jpg 525w, https:\/\/bikeme.tv\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/01\/2020-Triumph-Street-Triple-RS-details-13-600x400.jpg 600w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 640px) 100vw, 640px\" \/><p id=\"caption-attachment-1494446\" class=\"wp-caption-text\"><strong>The new can sounds and looks just beaut.<\/strong><\/p><\/div>\n<p>And you won\u2019t mind the time in the saddle, either. The seat is new and more pleasing to the buttocks. Your pillion will need to be a Russian gymnast or someone who loves you to the point of madness. Look, you\u2019ll be able to get her home from the pub, but I\u2019m not sure about inflicting a five-day Street Triple odyssey to Darwin on your girl.<\/p>\n<p>The Brembos (M50s) with MCS span and ratio adjustment were top-shelf, and I sure did give them a work-out while baking like a ham in 40-plus-degree temps.<\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_1494437\" style=\"width: 630px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-1494437\" class=\"wp-image-1494437 size-full\" src=\"http:\/\/bikeme.tv\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/01\/20191204_StreetTripleRS-7915-Copy.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"620\" height=\"301\" srcset=\"https:\/\/bikeme.tv\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/01\/20191204_StreetTripleRS-7915-Copy.jpg 620w, https:\/\/bikeme.tv\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/01\/20191204_StreetTripleRS-7915-Copy-300x146.jpg 300w, https:\/\/bikeme.tv\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/01\/20191204_StreetTripleRS-7915-Copy-600x291.jpg 600w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 620px) 100vw, 620px\" \/><p id=\"caption-attachment-1494437\" class=\"wp-caption-text\"><strong>I&#8217;m not leading. I&#8217;m coming last.<\/strong><\/p><\/div>\n<p>The overall finish reflects Triumph\u2019s unapologetic positioning at the premium end of the mid-size naked niche, where the Street runs right up against the brilliant Monster Stealth and the sexier-than-sexy MV. It\u2019s also competing with Yamaha\u2019s superbly priced and able MT09, but offers much higher spec\u00a0 goodies to reflect the price difference.<\/p>\n<p>And that\u2019s where the Street Triple wants to be \u2013 at the upper-end of the market, hence the beaut up-and-down quick-shifter, carbon-ended pipe, and tiltable TFT dash with more customising options than are probably necessary.<\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_1494447\" style=\"width: 630px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-1494447\" class=\"wp-image-1494447 size-full\" src=\"http:\/\/bikeme.tv\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/01\/New-Street-RS-Launch-Hero-Static-005.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"620\" height=\"349\" srcset=\"https:\/\/bikeme.tv\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/01\/New-Street-RS-Launch-Hero-Static-005.jpg 620w, https:\/\/bikeme.tv\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/01\/New-Street-RS-Launch-Hero-Static-005-300x169.jpg 300w, https:\/\/bikeme.tv\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/01\/New-Street-RS-Launch-Hero-Static-005-600x338.jpg 600w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 620px) 100vw, 620px\" \/><p id=\"caption-attachment-1494447\" class=\"wp-caption-text\"><strong>One of the sharpest knives in the drawer.<\/strong><\/p><\/div>\n<p>Look, I love the fact there are five colour options and three layout variants on the TFT dash \u2013 but only like I love the same supermodel putting on different coloured bikinis. Do you really need to be able to customise the colour of your display? No. Will you be changing the look each time you ride? No. Is it nice to have. Sure. Why not? Your Triumph sales-bloke lives to show you all of them. Make sure he does.<\/strong><\/p><\/div>\n<p>I guess it goes with the whole modern, high-fizz aspect of the Street Triple. Sport mode is breath-takingly intense. That engine spins up so fast and so smooth, it will make you slit your eyes and gird your loins. Road mode is certainly less evil-minded, so that\u2019s where mine stayed for the most part.<\/p>\n<p>I did a solid 400-plus road kays \u2013 some of which were over some truly heinous bumpy rubbish that ran along the banks of some lakey thing in the Sunshine Coast hinterland. I was not battered to death and at no time did the Street feel unsettled or out of sorts with my inputs. It steered fast and true \u2013 which is exactly how such a light, febrile, and intense bike should feel. Yes, I have time to wave while setting lap-records. Who doesn&#8217;t?&#8221;<\/strong><\/p><\/div>\n<p>The ergos are not too upright, but I was at my physical limit in terms of knee-bendability. Any higher and it would have been a struggle for my six-foot frame. As it was, it felt spot-on. I could get my \u201cLean forward and pretend you\u2019re fast\u201d shit on when it got twisty, and I could relax a bit on the boring transport stages.<\/p>\n<p>Except when Dale, our lead rider made us ride through a terrifying grass fire. I felt quick, I felt comfy, and I felt very much in charge of proceedings. I was expecting some sort of tetchy lightswitch carry-on, and was very pleased to get rock-solid stability instead.<\/p>\n<p>On the track \u2013 well, it ain\u2019t no Supersport, but then you\u2019re probably not much of a Supersport yourself. Normal people will be as fast and as sure on a Street Triple as they would be on any comparable Supersport, or indeed Superbike. Especially around smaller and tighter tracks like Lakeside.
