It doesn\u2019t matter to me what others think about my purchase. Just so long as I think it\u2019s beautiful.<\/p>\n<p>That\u2019s the key. It\u2019s just gorgeous.<\/p>\n<p>Objectively and subjectively. Its lines are right. Its stance is righteous. Vibe-free and you can actually see stuff behind you.<\/strong><\/p><\/div>\n<p>This is a bike that is lighter (196kg dry) and more powerful than the vaunted Thruxton. It has a lighter crankshaft and a higher compression ratio, but uses the same High Output tune as the Thruxton. Which means the numbers are 97 horses and 112Nm (at 4950rpm \u2013 or 100Nm at 2000rpm) \u2013 with a torque curve flatter than a runway, and a power delivery that will nudge you into diabetes with its sweetness.<\/p>\n<p>It attains this weight advantage over the Thruxton via an engine that is 2.5kg lighter, and boasts magnesium cam covers, a revised clutch assembly, and lighter wheels.<\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_1460101\" style=\"width: 630px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-1460101\" class=\"wp-image-1460101 size-full\" src=\"http:\/\/bikeme.tv\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/05\/KlvpDouU-Copy.jpeg\" alt=\"\" width=\"620\" height=\"414\" srcset=\"https:\/\/bikeme.tv\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/05\/KlvpDouU-Copy.jpeg 620w, https:\/\/bikeme.tv\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/05\/KlvpDouU-Copy-300x200.jpeg 300w, https:\/\/bikeme.tv\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/05\/KlvpDouU-Copy-524x350.jpeg 524w, https:\/\/bikeme.tv\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/05\/KlvpDouU-Copy-600x401.jpeg 600w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 620px) 100vw, 620px\" \/><p id=\"caption-attachment-1460101\" class=\"wp-caption-text\"><strong>Brakes are good, but spokes would have been great. Still, the front guard makes up a bit for that oversight.<br \/><\/strong><\/p><\/div>\n<p>It is an enticing package to ride, and with its drop-dead good-looks, there could well be clouds of sweetly-scented girls\u2019 undergarments greeting the owner on his travels.<\/p>\n<p>But should you want to impress the ladies with your derring-do riding capers, you will find the Speed Twin somewhat staider in its response than the Thruxton.<\/p>\n<p>Don\u2019t worry. This makes it more stable on the road, though less lively in the bends. But given its shod with serious Pirelli Rosso Corsa Threes, it\u2019s not going to bring shame upon your ancestors. That will be your doing entirely.<\/p>\n<p>The forks are 41mm with 120mm of travel and the rear KYB units are adjustable for preload. I would be up-speccing the rear units to the readily available <em>\u00d6hlins aftermarket<\/em> items, because when you decide to wring its neck (and it wants you to\u2026it really does), the suspension doesn\u2019t always deal with our rubbish roads as well as it might. Or maybe my spine doesn\u2019t bounce as well as it once did.<\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_1460118\" style=\"width: 630px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-1460118\" class=\"wp-image-1460118 size-full\" src=\"http:\/\/bikeme.tv\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/05\/hwZt90bE.jpeg\" alt=\"\" width=\"620\" height=\"413\" srcset=\"https:\/\/bikeme.tv\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/05\/hwZt90bE.jpeg 620w, https:\/\/bikeme.tv\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/05\/hwZt90bE-300x200.jpeg 300w, https:\/\/bikeme.tv\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/05\/hwZt90bE-525x350.jpeg 525w, https:\/\/bikeme.tv\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/05\/hwZt90bE-600x400.jpeg 600w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 620px) 100vw, 620px\" \/><p id=\"caption-attachment-1460118\" class=\"wp-caption-text\"><strong>The shocks are keen, the note is sweet. Both can be vastly improved by owners with beer.<\/strong><\/p><\/div>\n<p>It is not assisted in this regard by the very sexy, slim-line seat. There is a touch of cruelty in those skinny seats.<\/p>\n<p>Look, if you\u2019re just riding like a Christian, as so many prospective owners will, then you\u2019ll be delighted. But a little cruel. But lovely.<\/strong><\/p><\/div>\n<p>This is not necessarily a bad thing. It teaches you manners, I guess.<\/p>\n<p>And I\u2019d never change the seat. Just like I\u2019d never demand a supermodel pack on some beef so her hip-bones would stop bruising me. It\u2019s also quite a low seat height (807mm), so that will delight the more squat-legged among us.<\/p>\n<p>Triumph has not relented in its pursuit of quality finishes. It wants its bikes to look and feel like proper fancy, high-class units, and to a large degree, it\u2019s quite successful in this regard. There is a difference, but the nature of the engine means you won\u2019t be screeching in terror in Sport. It just delivers the oomph with a little more eagerness. Road is fine, but if\u2019n you\u2019re gonna worship Satan, Sport is the go.<\/p>\n<p>The torque-assisted clutch is sweet, and the gearbox changes with delicious precision (Triumph really must be congratulated on its slick gearboxes of late), which all goes to the Speed Twins ineffable rideability.<\/p>\n<p>I guess what that means is it\u2019s a very easy bike to ride and just as easy a bike to ride with a little salt in your belly.<\/p>\n<p>Thrills without the terror, I guess.<\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_1460152\" style=\"width: 630px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-1460152\" class=\"wp-image-1460152 size-full\" src=\"http:\/\/bikeme.tv\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/05\/Q7F8s1eU.jpeg\" alt=\"\" width=\"620\" height=\"405\" srcset=\"https:\/\/bikeme.tv\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/05\/Q7F8s1eU.jpeg 620w, https:\/\/bikeme.tv\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/05\/Q7F8s1eU-300x196.jpeg 300w, https:\/\/bikeme.tv\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/05\/Q7F8s1eU-536x350.jpeg 536w, https:\/\/bikeme.tv\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/05\/Q7F8s1eU-600x392.jpeg 600w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 620px) 100vw, 620px\" \/><p id=\"caption-attachment-1460152\" class=\"wp-caption-text\"><strong>It&#8217;s roomy enough and the ergos suit the bike to a T.<\/strong><\/p><\/div>\n<p>But most importantly, it satisfies \u2013 emotionally and on a crucially visceral level, which is all ultimately down to its looks.<\/p>\n<p>And they are simply divine.
