I feel like a princess.<\/p>\n

A leathery one.<\/p>\n

But a princess nonetheless.<\/p>\n

After all, I have a dazzling new leather jacket and some very fine new gloves to go with it. This does not happen often. So when it does I get all fluttery and want to go dancing at a ball.<\/p>\n

But I go ride motorcycles instead. It\u2019s best for everyone that way.<\/p>\n

Behold the latest in super-fine leather riding apparel from Segura.<\/p>\n

I wish you could smell them. I spent two days with my nose buried in the jacket inhaling that rich leathery perfume only the very finest leather exudes. My wife told me to stop being weird.<\/p>\n

\u201cSmell it!\u201d I demanded. She locked herself in the bathroom.<\/p>\n

It feels fine, too. I\u2019ve touched it a lot. I\u2019ve stroked it and patted it. Yes, there was fondling. It\u2019s that kind of leather.<\/p>\n

You can almost feel the leathery glory. And 1970 is a year Segura wishes to celebrate. No, I do not know why. Because France, OK?<\/p><\/div>\n

It is thick but incredibly soft, because it comes from the plush, muscled bellies (rather than the bird-pecked and weather-beaten haunches) of steel-eyed motorcycle cows.<\/p>\n

I would like to think the cows live somewhere nice in France, which is where Segura leathers come from. The company once sponsored GP racer, Christian Sarron, so it\u2019s not new at making motorcycle gear. It\u2019s been at it since 1967. The jackets are now made in Vietnam, a place which has had a relationship with France since the 16th century. The relationship ended in a messy divorce in 1954 which was known as Battle of \u0110i\u1ec7n Bi\u00ean Ph\u1ee7, but clearly manufacturing fine leather products has them speaking again.<\/p>\n

Now just relax. Just because the product is not made in France does not mean it\u2019s not of superb quality. Do you think that Dainese or Alpine Star are made in Italy?<\/p>\n

Segura, quite obviously, is in the business of providing a top-shelf motorcycle product. And the jacket I have is very much a top-quality item.<\/p>\n

70 is a sexier number than 67, the year they started making stuff.<\/p><\/div>\n

The inner zipper flap is quite wide and acts as a great wind-break.<\/p><\/div>\n

The sleeve is adjustable for width.<\/p><\/div>\n

The zippers literally purr when you use them. It feels substantial when you put it on, and it fits me very well for an off-the-rack item. The sleeves are the right length and the collar is finished with some kind of beautifully soft fibre along the top edge, so it doesn\u2019t chew on your neck when you turn your head. Every fastener clicks solidly into place and there are three inner-pockets ; one with a zipper for your phone and two Velcro-topped ones. There is also a zippered outside breast pocket and two zippered waist pockets. You can\u2019t fit a loaf of bread into any of them, but they will take a good-sized croissant.<\/p>\n

It also comes with a magnificent, quilted thermal liner, which looks and feels like the cream-coloured bed-comforter in an expensive Parisian brothel. It zips out for summer, but I\u2019ve left it in for the last week or so because Sydney offers brisk spring mornings for early-risers like me.<\/p>\n

It is fully armoured, with CE-approved armour in the shoulders and elbows and it will take a back-protector if you\u2019re so inclined. In fact, every bit of the jacket is CE-approved – the stitching, the leather – everything. It’s all been tested and none of it has been found wanting.<\/p>\n

One of the inner pockets is segmented. Two magazines from a nine-millimeter handgun fit in there perfectly.<\/p><\/div>\n

It is called the Steevy, after the mighty French warrior, Comte Steevy Charbonneau De Sauveterre, who rode into battle against the filthy English in 1278.<\/p>\n

It has the number 70 on one sleeve, which is the number of English pikemen Steevy slew in battle, and it has an American flag on the other sleeve\u2026um, because America.<\/p>\n

There are other styles, but this is the one I liked.<\/p>\n

I feel it\u2019s a great alternative to brightly-coloured race-style leathers. It\u2019s kinda dressy and very stylish, and dare I say, rather chic. You could wear it to dinner and still get into a massive karate fight out the front of the joint because you are fully armoured and able to empi uchi<\/em> your way to glory.<\/p>\n

The quality of the stitching can be seen – straight and true.<\/p><\/div>\n

Easy-to-grab zip.<\/p><\/div>\n

But it is designed to ride bikes, and is cut accordingly. The back is a proper kidney-covering length and the arms are curved.<\/p>\n

I like this jacket very much. It\u2019s a top bit of kit that fits well, looks cool (but then what doesn\u2019t on me?) and has the integrity to deal with me throwing my shit down the road.<\/p>\n

Safe and sexy me. Happy days.<\/p>\n

Now the gloves, huh?<\/p>\n

I\u2019ve taken to wearing short gloves in the last few years. Not in winter of course, when it\u2019s all gauntlets and heated hand-grips. The rest of the year I\u2019m all over the shorter glove.<\/p>\n

They\u2019re easy to get on and off, and the way jackets are made these days, I don\u2019t have to struggle trying to get the elongated wrist section of the glove over the jacket sleeve.<\/p>\n

I first saw the Gooze glove at the Segura launch.<\/p>\n

I immediately found Dave Maddock, who is my Ficeda contact and a long-time buddy. Just so you know, Ficeda is the importer of Segura, along with Shark helmets, Berik, Oxford, etc. Anyway, I found Dave.<\/p>\n

And he did.<\/p>\n

And they\u2019re outstanding. The same level of quality that is found in the Segura jackets is extant in their gloves.<\/p>\n

I wish they weren\u2019t called \u201cGooze\u201d.<\/p>\n

That\u2019s not a name I\u2019m able to deal with very well.<\/p>\n

I wish they were called \u201cSex God\u201d, or \u201cBabe Handler\u201d, but it is what its.<\/p>\n

Beaut gloves. Love them.<\/p>\n
