| The Tollrider kit: magnetic bag and handlebar mount |
Mr. Egan entered into a joint agreement with John Sample Automotive (JSA) to develop a product for the world market off the back of his patented idea. After 12 months of testing and product development with JSA the final product has been received well by major Australian motoring bodies such as the RTA.
The Tollrider Magnetic system uses a patented magnetic lock system to attach the Tollrider to any motorcycle. Easy to attach and easy to remove, the Tollrider is a purpose made pouch that allows electronic toll tags to be inserted and then mounted safety onto a motorcycle using a magnetic locking system.
For motorcycles with metal petrol tanks, the Tollrider pouch simply sticks straight on to the tank. For motorcycles that do not have metal tanks, a handle bar clamp is included with the Tollrider which allows you to mount the Tollrider onto the (wait for it) handle bars. Also supplied are three sizes of handle bar spacers to allow for different diameter bars.
The final design and styling of the Tollrider was handed to JSA product specialist Mark Cooper who headed an international design and manufacturing team that produced the final product using the latest in lightweight weatherproof materials while incorporating style along with aerodynamics. Yes, aerodynamics. Can't quite crack 300? It's not the Tollrider's fault. It's probably yours.
"The Tollrider Magnetic system was put through a number of rigorous tests on and off road and in all weather conditions with excellent results," said Cooper.
"The current product you see today has really evolved over the last six months into what we will be marketing to the world with a targeted focus towards the US, South America and Europe.
"The prototype product I first worked with was basically a square
Gore-Tex bag which we have transformed into an aerodynamic product that will
look great on any motorcycle while taking up as little real estate as
possible in the cockpit or handlebar area.
"I think the safety factor of the Tollrider concept was the most important
part of this project for me. After watching number of learner and
provisional riders fishing around in their jacket pockets for an E-Tag while
riding up to and entering a toll plaza in peak traffic conditions it became
obvious this is an essential product. One handed novice riders in peak
traffic conditions holding an E-Tag in the air while riding is just an
accident waiting to happen. Thankfully, this product will take away that
risk."
Not that there's anything wrong with one handed riders, of course; and I'm sure Mark recognises the diversity which they bring to our sport.
The Tollrider system has already been accepted by both the RTA and Interlink Roads for use with their electronic tags after many requests from motorcyclists looking for a safe solution for mounting e-tags to their motorcycles. Both organizations will be promoting the product alongside their relevant toll products.
Tollrider comes in three sizes to suit all Electronic Toll Tags available on the Australian market:
| Small | E-Way and Roam Toll Tag |
| Medium | RTA Toll Tag |
| Large | Old E-Way & Roam Toll Tag |
The Tollrider Magnetic system comes with the following standard features:
